The Black Cap has celebrated the highly successful launch of Regina Fong Terrace, with the opening event warmly welcomed by guests, performers and long-time supporters alike.

The much-anticipated unveiling last week marked a proud new chapter in the venue’s continuing revival, as visitors gathered to experience the new first-floor terrace space – created in tribute to the legendary drag artist Her Imperial Highness Regina Fong.
From the moment doors opened, the atmosphere was electric. The terrace quickly filled with attendees enjoying live music, reconnecting with friends old and new, and celebrating the return of The Black Cap as a vibrant home of cabaret and community. The event underscored the venue’s enduring role on Camden High Street and its deep connection to decades of LGBTQ+ cultural history.
A highlight of the day was the official ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Black Cap campaigner Alex Green, whose involvement reflected the years of dedication that helped bring the venue back to life.
Speaking at the event, Alex said: “I cannot tell you how happy I was to be asked to ‘cut the ribbon’ for the reopening of the final piece of The Black Cap restoration…Fong Terrace after our beloved HIH Regina Fong. Sitting on the terrace chatting with old and new friends made the years of standing outside very much worth it.”
The new terrace, accessed via the Ms Shufflewick Bar and complementing Lilly’s Bar below, forms part of a carefully restored venue that honours its past while embracing its future. At its heart is a striking blue plaque commemorating Regina Fong’s legacy, ensuring her presence remains central to The Black Cap’s identity.
Bar Manager Rafa Motycki noted that the overwhelming turnout and positive response reflect the appetite for live entertainment and community spaces: “The popularity of the Black Cap has been incredible, and the terrace adds a new dimension – somewhere people can enjoy live music, fresh air, and the unique atmosphere that makes this venue so special.”
With a full programme of performances already drawing enthusiastic crowds, the success of the launch event signals a bright future for Regina Fong Terrace as a destination for both established stars and emerging talent.
The reopening stands not only as a celebration of one iconic performer, but as a testament to the resilience, passion and community spirit that have defined The Black Cap across generations.
