Barceló Hotel Group has announced the opening of Barceló Roma, a new city hotel in the Italian capital and the result of a €41 million investment.

Following a complete refurbishment, the hotel pays tribute to 20th-century Roman Rationalist architecture and aims to set a new benchmark for contemporary hospitality in one of Europe’s most visited destinations.

Located close to Rome’s historic centre and Vatican City, Barceló Roma has been designed as a destination where business, culture and modern city life converge. The hotel features 352 guestrooms that combine contemporary design, comfort and premium finishes to appeal to both business and leisure travellers.

The hotel’s dining offering includes two restaurants and a lounge bar, where traditional Roman cuisine is reinterpreted with a contemporary approach. Guests can also enjoy the signature B-LikEat breakfast concept, developed by Barceló Hotel Group to reflect its commitment to wellbeing, sustainability and locally sourced ingredients. The breakfast menu includes organic produce, artisanal specialities and options tailored to modern health-conscious travellers.

Additional facilities include a fully equipped fitness centre and an outdoor swimming pool.

José Ramón Álvarez Cervela, Director of the Urban Europe Division at Barceló Hotel Group, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the opening of the Barceló Roma, a project that perfectly reflects our vision of contemporary hospitality, whilst showcasing the unique identity of one of the world’s most fascinating destinations.”

The hotel is inspired by “The Other Rome”, a concept celebrating the city’s Rationalist and Modernist architecture, which helped reshape Rome throughout the 20th century. The design reinterprets classical Roman monumentalism through a contemporary lens, combining materials such as travertine and concrete with the clean geometric lines associated with the movement.

The architectural design was led by Rome-based studio Space Planners, while the interiors were created by Milan-based Chiara Caberlon Studio. Drawing inspiration from the nearby Tenuta dell’Acquafredda Nature Reserve and the historic Via Aurelia, the interiors combine natural influences, Roman heritage and contemporary aesthetics.

Amber and green tones inspired by the surrounding landscape sit alongside terracotta accents and metallic gold details, creating interiors that connect Rome’s past with its present while supporting the hotel’s focus on wellbeing and sustainability.

One of the property’s most distinctive features is its dramatic central staircase, designed to create a strong visual impact through the use of layered lighting, contrasting materials and contemporary architectural detailing.

Barceló Roma also strengthens the group’s commitment to the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector. The hotel offers more than 1,400 square metres of event space and eight meeting rooms designed to host corporate meetings, conferences and private events.

Commenting on the strategic importance of the project, José Ramón Álvarez Cervela added: “Italy represents a key strategic market within our European expansion plans, and Rome, with its global appeal and strong demand for both business and leisure, plays a central role in this vision.

“The opening of the Barceló Roma marks an important milestone in strengthening our presence in the country and consolidating our position amongst the leading European city destinations. Looking ahead, we are confident that the Barceló Roma will establish itself as one of the city’s leading hotels in the MICE sector and as a flagship property for our brand in Italy, offering a distinctive experience that combines design, innovation and excellent service.”
