The Indian Hotels Company Limited has opened Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, marking the Taj brand’s first hotel in Continental Europe.

The opening restores the former Grandhotel Hessischer Hof, one of Frankfurt’s most prestigious luxury hotels, to the city’s hospitality landscape.
The landmark property closed at the end of 2020 and returns this summer as part of Taj’s international portfolio.
The opening strengthens a collection already familiar to the UK market through St. James’ Court, A Taj Hotel, London and Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences, London.
Together with The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, New York and Taj Campton Place, San Francisco, the Frankfurt property forms part of a collection of landmark hotels across Europe and the United States.
Each property reflects the heritage and identity of its destination.
The transformation of Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt combines the building’s established character with a contemporary design scheme by Hamburg-based interior architecture studio JOI-Design.
Original furniture and features, including parquet flooring, wood panelling and marble, have been retained.
These have been complemented by expressive colours, tactile fabrics and artwork.
Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt comprises 117 guestrooms and nine suites across eight categories.
Seven of the suites exceed 80 square metres, while the 140-square-metre Royal Presidential Suite includes two bedrooms, a separate meeting room and a kitchenette.
Several guestrooms also feature private balconies.
The hotel’s food and beverage offer is led by Bombay Brasserie, which combines North Indian cuisine with European influences.
The restaurant accommodates 60 guests indoors and a further 45 on its summer terrace.
The menu spans tandoor specialities and established Indian dishes alongside international options.
Rotating tasting menus and a weekday two- or three-course business lunch complete the offer.
Executive Chef Nilesh Dangwal brings extensive experience within IHCL.
His previous roles include Taj Mahal Palace and Tower and Taj Wellington Mews in Mumbai, followed by his most recent position as Deputy Executive Chef at Taj Dubai.
Food & Beverage Manager Tim Stoelzel’s previous appointments include Meliá Frankfurt City, Villa Rothschild, Restaurant Gustav and Restaurant Weinsinn.
The opening also marks the return of Jimmy’s Bar, a long-established name in Frankfurt’s hospitality and nightlife scene.
The bar retains its intimate atmosphere, live piano music and focus on classic cocktails, with a subtle refurbishment preserving its original character.
Jimmy’s Bar is led by Emmanuel Saridakis, who previously spent more than 22 years as Bar Manager of Harry’s New York Bar in Frankfurt.
Additional facilities include the Lobby Lounge & Bar and J Wellness Circle, Taj’s signature approach to wellbeing.
Drawing on Ayurvedic traditions and modern therapeutic techniques, the wellness concept includes treatments and massages delivered by specially trained therapists.
The facilities also include a gym, private treatment suites, two saunas and two steam rooms.
The property provides three event spaces and two private dining rooms for meetings, workshops, receptions and private occasions.
With capacity limited to 70 guests, the facilities have been designed to support more intimate and individually tailored events.
Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt also introduces The Chambers to Continental Europe for the first time.
The members-only club comprises three interconnected areas and a dedicated meeting room.
It is supported by a private concierge service and a programme of bespoke events.
The hotel is led by General Manager Albert Mayr, who brings strong knowledge of the Frankfurt market from previous leadership roles at Meliá Frankfurt City and Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof.
He works alongside Hotel Manager Tanika Taneja, who has been with IHCL since 2010.
Taneja has held senior positions across the group, including at Taj Lands End Mumbai, Taj Usha Kiran Palace in Gwalior and Taj Coral Reef Resort & Spa in the Maldives.
The Frankfurt appointment is her first assignment in Europe.
Mayr said: “Our goal is to combine European elegance with the warmth of Indian hospitality to create a truly exceptional guest experience.
“We also want to establish Bombay Brasserie as a leading culinary destination and re-establish Jimmy’s Bar as one of Frankfurt’s premier social venues.”
The opening follows the promotion of Spiridon Sarantopoulos to Senior Vice President – Operations, Europe and USA, IHCL.
In his expanded role, Sarantopoulos provides strategic leadership across Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, the group’s two London properties and Taj Campton Place, San Francisco.
He will also continue to oversee The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, New York.
Sarantopoulos has more than three decades of international luxury hospitality experience and extensive knowledge of the German market.
Before joining IHCL, he held senior positions with Accor and Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts, including General Manager of Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof and Grandhotel & Spa Petersberg.
He was also Vice President – Luxury Hotels at Deutsche Hospitality.
Sarantopoulos said: “Our collection of landmark hotels represents some of the world’s most celebrated destinations, each with its own unique heritage and identity.
“As we continue to grow across London, Frankfurt, New York, and San Francisco, our commitment remains unchanged – to deliver exceptional hospitality, inspire our teams, strengthen guest loyalty, and create memorable experiences that are deeply authentic to each destination while remaining unmistakably Taj.”
