The Halfway House on Halton Road in Runcorn has reopened following a £150,000 refurbishment.

The investment has transformed both the interior and exterior of the community pub while creating eight new jobs for the local area.

Mother-and-daughter team Mandy Schon and Gemma Conway, who are both from Runcorn, have managed the Halfway House for the past nine years.

Inside, walls have been removed to create a more open-plan layout, while the pub has introduced two interactive darts lanes and a second pool table.

The upgraded darts area also features a mural of darts player Luke Littler, who the pub says has previously visited the venue for casual games.

Further internal improvements include new furniture, refurbished toilets and changes to the drinks offer.

Externally, the Halfway House has been repainted and features custom graffiti artwork by local artist Jano alongside updates to the pub’s frontage.

The beer garden has also been expanded, with additional seating and covered areas introduced to allow the outdoor space to be used throughout the year.

Gemma Conway, Manager of the Halfway House, commented: “Wow, what a transformation! We’re delighted with the pub and it’s just what Runcorn needs in a world of pubs closing down daily. I feel very lucky that I get to do this every day with my mum. A proper family run pub in the heart of the community is what we’re all about.

“The face of the pub may have changed but our family, community values very much exist, and we want to open our doors to customers old and new in the Runcorn area. We can’t wait for everyone to see what we have done with the pub, and we’re very grateful to Blind Tiger Inns who always go above and beyond when they refurbish any of their pubs.”

Mandy Schon, Manager of the Halfway House, added: “To turn this around in 12 days is just mental! We’re very happy with the end result and I echo what Gemma said about being lucky to do this every day as a mother and daughter duo. Do we agree on everything, absolutely not! But we always do everything with our customers’ best interests at heart and that won’t change.”
