The restaurant team behind Camille is to open B. Penhale in Farringdon this October, with the 66-cover restaurant focusing on the regional cooking traditions of Britain and Ireland.
Known informally as Penhale’s, the restaurant will open at 57 West Smithfield near the historic Smithfield Market.
The project comes from restaurateurs Clare Lattin, Ratnesh Bagdai and Tom Hill, who will be joined by Elliot Hashtroudi as Chef Patron. Hashtroudi will also continue in his role as Executive Chef at Camille.
At Camille, Hashtroudi has developed an approach centred on seasonal British produce, direct relationships with farmers and whole-carcass butchery. These principles will also form part of the food offer at Penhale’s.
The restaurant takes its name from Hashtroudi’s grandmother, Betty Penhale, who was a home cook. His family also has connections to Smithfield, with his maternal great-grandmother having worked as a butcher at the market.
Penhale’s will occupy a Grade II-listed building previously home to Michelin-starred French restaurant Club Gascon and Lyon’s Tea House.
Chef Pascal Aussignac said: “I wish the Camille team and their opening of Penhale’s the same success that Club Gascon had over a generation.”
The venue will comprise a 60-cover dining room and dedicated six-cover bar.
The dining room will draw on traditional dishes and elements of Victorian dining, while the bar will operate a rotating chalkboard menu available exclusively to walk-in customers.
The food will explore regional traditions from across Great Britain and Ireland, with information accompanying dishes to provide context around their geographical and historical origins.
Whole-carcass butchery will feature prominently, including offal and lesser-used cuts alongside seasonal produce.
Camille Head of Wine Max Hancock will oversee the wine programme, which will include a particular focus on British winemakers producing both within and outside Britain and Ireland.
The wider list will also take inspiration from the drinking habits of the Victorian period and wines and regions that were popular in Britain at the time.
B. Penhale is scheduled to open in Farringdon in October 2026.
