Radisson Blu Hotel Sheffield has achieved Verified Net Zero status, becoming Radisson Hotel Group’s second property in the UK to receive the designation as the company continues its international sustainability programme.

The 154-room hotel joins Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre, which was among the first properties globally to achieve Verified Net Zero status under the group’s programme.

The latest addition brings the number of Verified Net Zero hotels across Radisson Hotel Group’s portfolio to 11, supporting its target of reaching 100 properties by 2030.

The programme addresses emissions from energy use, covering Scope 1 and Scope 2 under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, alongside operational and supply-chain emissions classified as Scope 3.

Measures include the use of 100% renewable energy through electrification or renewable electricity purchasing, together with initiatives to reduce waste and address emissions associated with food and beverage, laundry, guest amenities and procurement.

Remaining emissions are compensated through nature-based carbon removal credits provided in partnership with Agreena, a European soil carbon programme supporting more than 2,300 farmers across over 4.5 million hectares of farmland.

Radisson Hotel Group has also partnered with Swedish sustainability specialist Klimato to develop lower-carbon menus across its hotel operations, including breakfast buffets, in-room dining and meetings and events.

The initiative involves analysing the carbon footprint of dishes and introducing menu labels ranging from A, representing the lowest carbon impact, to E, representing the highest. According to Radisson, changes to ingredients and recipes can reduce the carbon footprint of individual dishes by up to 40%.

Each participating hotel undergoes independent third-party verification by TÜV Rheinland against the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels.

Located in Sheffield city centre, Radisson Blu Hotel Sheffield features 154 guest rooms, a rooftop restaurant and bar overlooking the Town Hall and Peace Gardens, and six flexible meeting and event spaces with an outdoor terrace.

The hotel incorporates a restored Victorian façade, with the building’s heritage features preserved as part of its development.

The Verified Net Zero designation also forms part of the group’s offering to corporate customers and event organisers seeking accommodation and meeting facilities with measures in place to reduce their environmental impact.

Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer at Radisson Hotel Group, said:

“The success of our existing Verified Net Zero hotels is helping us reach our target of 100 hotels by 2030. They reflect growing guest awareness and clear demand for more sustainable travel, meetings and events. The launch of Radisson Blu Hotel, Sheffield as a Verified Net Zero Hotel is particularly meaningful, as it brings together the restoration of an iconic heritage building with the city’s ambition to be a leading green and cultural destination. Our goal is to deliver an exceptional guest experience while reducing our environmental impact across every aspect of our operations. This achievement reflects the commitment of our team and demonstrates that sustainability and outstanding hospitality can go hand in hand.”

Valerie Donaldson, General Manager, Radisson Blu Hotel Sheffield, added:

“Sheffield has a strong reputation for innovation, sustainability and regeneration, making it a natural fit for the Verified Net Zero program. We are excited to play our part in supporting the city’s sustainable growth while providing our guests, corporate customers and event organizers with the opportunity to choose a hotel committed to reducing its environmental footprint.”

The Sheffield milestone follows further expansion of Radisson Hotel Group’s Verified Net Zero programme across Europe and Africa, as the company works towards its 2030 target.
