Restaurant Associates has crowned the winners of its inaugural Chef of the Year competition following a day of live cooking in King’s Cross, London.
Fourteen finalists from across the business competed in Junior and Senior categories through two heats designed to test technical ability, creativity and commercial awareness.
Competitors were challenged to transform mystery baskets of seasonal ingredients into finished dishes under time pressure.
Each dish was assessed against criteria including flavour, seasonality, sustainability, nutritional balance, technical execution, organisation, professionalism and commercial awareness.
The competition was developed to give Restaurant Associates chefs an opportunity to demonstrate their individual cooking styles outside their day-to-day roles while gaining experience in a professional competition environment.
The judging panel comprised Bake Off: The Professionals judge Cherish Finden, Lake District Farmers Master Butcher Russell Dodd and previous Compass Chef of the Year winners Gary Wolfe and Lee Redman.
Adarsh Nair was named Junior Chef of the Year, with Irena Rauckyte taking second place and Danielle Vardy finishing third.
Dang Pham won Senior Chef of the Year, followed by Jack Shaw in second and Alex Milligan in third.
The successful chefs will now progress to represent Restaurant Associates at the Compass Chef of the Year competition this autumn.
