Richard, a trainee at The CRUMBS Project, has been named July’s Kitchen Porter of the Month, recognising the hospitality skills he has developed and the commitment he has shown throughout his training.
The work of a kitchen porter often happens away from public view, as does the progress involved in building the confidence, consistency and teamwork needed to perform the role effectively.
The Kitchen Porters Club is proud to bring that progress into focus, celebrating Richard’s development and the contribution he is making as part of his training.
Richard was nominated by Ursula Boardman, Head of Centre at The CRUMBS Project, who told us: “Richard has Autism, he struggled with communication when he first came to us and life was extremely difficult for him.
“Richard has thrived at CRUMBS and has overcome so many challenges, he has gained skills in Hospitality and is a wonderful kitchen porter!”
Ursula’s nomination reflects far more than Richard’s ability to carry out the practical responsibilities of a kitchen porter.
It recognises the confidence, communication and resilience he has developed while learning his role and becoming part of a hospitality team.
Paul Anderson, Managing Director of MEIKO UK and head of the Kitchen Porter of the Month judging process, said: “Richard’s achievement demonstrates what can happen when ability is given the right environment in which to develop.
“The progress Ursula describes in his communication, confidence and hospitality skills is significant.
“Richard has worked through considerable challenges to become a valued kitchen porter. He has earned this recognition, and everyone involved in the Kitchen Porters Club should be extremely proud to welcome him as a member.”
Richard will receive his official Kitchen Porters Club apron, water bottle and membership certificate in recognition of his achievement.
