Accessible Hospitality Alliance proudly welcomes The Balmoral, a Rocco Forte Hotel, as its latest member – an Edinburgh landmark where heritage and inclusivity meet.
Opened in 1902 and renowned for its majestic clock tower overlooking Princes Street, The Balmoral has long been a symbol of Scottish hospitality and timeless elegance. From J.K. Rowling completing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in its now-famous suite, the ‘J. K. Rowling Suite’, to hosting global icons including Sir Sean Connery, Laurel and Hardy, and Oprah Winfrey, the hotel’s story reflects excellence that transcends generations.
Now, as a member of Accessible Hospitality Alliance, The Balmoral strengthens its commitment to creating a hospitality world that welcomes everyone.

Andrew McPherson, General Manager of The Balmoral, a Rocco Forte Hotel, said of joining: “At The Balmoral, we feel strongly that true hospitality means welcoming every guest, regardless of ability, with dignity, care, and respect.”
“By joining the Accessible Hospitality Alliance, we are making a public commitment to embed accessibility into every aspect of our operations, from design and service to staff training and collaboration with industry peers.”
“We’re honoured to stand alongside other change-makers who share our vision for a more inclusive hospitality future, with the support of Accessible Hospitality Alliance.”

Robin Sheppard, Co-Founder and Chair, Accessible Hospitality Alliance, welcomed Andrew and the team at The Balmoral, a Rocco Forte Hotel, saying: “The Balmoral, a Rocco Forte Hotel, is quite literally an icon of hospitality, a word all too often overused, but not in this case.”
“The hotel has a proud heritage of leading the way for our industry and did so throughout the 20th century. Now, once again, Andrew and his colleagues continue that tradition through their authentic commitment to accessibility.
“We are delighted to welcome them to a growing community of change-makers united by a common purpose, a hospitality world that welcomes everyone.”
